The Senior Content Strategist/Editor is responsible for researching, writing, editing, prioritizing, and publishing critical news and content across multiple channels and platforms to attract and engage a wide range of stakeholders. The right candidate will bring curiosity, journalistic instincts, and keen attention to detail to their work, maintaining the highest levels of accuracy and quality. Working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, the Senior Content Strategist/Editor will serve as editorial lead for ASHP news vehicles, maintain ASHP’s editorial guidelines, and manage the organization’s editorial and content calendars.

This position is based in our Bethesda, MD office.  Our office has a hybrid working environment, with a combination of onsite and remote work.  Please note that ASHP requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and candidates will be required to show proof of being fully vaccinated upon commencing employment. What You'll Be Doing at ASHP:

  • Works in concert with the editorial, communications, and marketing staff to develop and manage a global editorial calendar to govern ASHP’s multi-channel member communications strategy.
  • Curates content for and oversees publication of news and information for ASHP news vehicles, including the ASHP online News Center, daily news production and editorial planning of ASHP meetings and events, and regularly published e-Newsletters.
  • Proactively mines ASHP’s rich content landscape, external news sources, and the organization’s subject matter experts in practice and public policy to identify topics, issues, news angles, and stories to feed the content pipeline and consistently deliver relevant and newsworthy information to members.
  • Writes original news stories and informational pieces to support a robust calendar of proprietary content for member engagement.
  • Works with the Executive Office, Government Relations Office, and other stakeholders to disseminate priority updates and news to members and other key constituents on an as-needed basis.
  • Ensures that content is engaging, strategic, shareable, and consistent with the organization’s voice, narrative, and strategic priorities.
  • Works in collaboration with the marketing and member relations teams to align content strategy with member engagement, recruitment, and renewal efforts.
  • Monitors and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) for core member communications activities, providing insights and recommendations to enhance impact.
  • Oversees the ASHP style guide, promoting continuity and consistency across the organization’s content and communications processes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You Bring To ASHP:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications or New Media required
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience writing and editing content to inform and engage stakeholders.
  • Background in journalism highly desired.
  • Experienced editor, writer, and creative thinker with an eye for timely, relevant content and a healthy respect for deadlines.
  • Proven ability to align organizational priorities to content decisions. Create and curate content and successfully adapt it by audience and channel to maximize relevance and impact.
  • Highly organized with a keen attention to detail. Ability to multitask and effectively prioritize overlapping assignments and multiple deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Highly collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a strong customer service orientation.
  • Prior editorial experience and demonstrated proficiency
    in A/P Style required.
  • Prior experience in print and digital publishing.
  • Familiarity with marketing automation/email marketing platforms (Hubspot or similar) required.
  • Supervisory experience and demonstrated ability to successfully manage vendors, budgets and large cross-functional stakeholder groups.
  • Healthcare and association experience a plus but not required
