Description/Job Summary

The Instructional Technology Specialist serves as part of a team that supports ASHP's reputation of offering highly-respected and renowned pharmacy education globally.  This role will be responsible for taking education authored by expert faculty and delivering it to our worldwide learner base of over 200,000 healthcare professionals.  The ideal candidate excels at making education accessible, easy and engaging, and can work with a variety of formats.  This position includes working with both live and asynchronous educational content and will work extensively within ASHP's LMS.  No knowledge of pharmacy practice is required.

This position will be based onsite in our Bethesda, MD office, and the employee in this role will be working in a hybrid environment, consistent with Association-wide ASHP policies applicable to HQ-based employees.   The base salary for this position is $80,000-$95,000.  ASHP offers a comprehensive benefits plan.  You may view more details regarding our benefits on our careers page.

What You'll Be Doing:

  1. Receives raw content matter and enhances it with engaging instructional programming
  2. Coordinates and manages educational webinars using Go-To-Meeting, Zoom or similar programs
  3. Develops content-specific training materials using eLearning authoring tools such as Captivate to deliver interactive web-based training products
  4. Works collaboratively and professionally as a member of many different teams, serving as online learning expert
  5. Reviews educational materials with Content Matter Experts (CMEs) and incorporates current technology to create educational activities that are learner-centric
  6. Provides technological platform support for learners and speakers via email, phone, or in-person (at conferences)
  7. Serves as a problem-solver and idea generator on a team of creative thinkers that is responsible for making new ideas possible within the reality of what the technology can do
  8. Handles multiple projects and course development initiatives with competing launch dates and different stakeholders
  9. Performs testing and quality assessment of all courses prior to implementation
  10. Works with varying media and learning formats, including but not limited to text, video, animation, gaming, recorded presentations, live webinars, and in-person conferences
  11. Monitors current trends in learning technology and advocates for use of new technologies to support relevant and innovative education
  12. Integrates feedback, assessments, and course evaluations into current and new educational activities
  13. Recommends new, cutting-edge instructional formats and technologies as applicable.
  14. Serves as back up for fellow team members, including working with process management applications and assembling finalized content on the LMS
  15. Thrives as a self-starter, visualizing and executing the steps necessary to see a project to completion

What You Bring to ASHP:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in internet-based training, adult education, and/or multimedia training materials development. Experience with audio and video editing software and content authoring tools is preferred. Experience with HTML, technical or LMS integrations, and assembly of accredited education courses is a plus.
  • Experience in instructional design and course delivery for web-based adult learners. (Required 3 Years);
  • Experience in creating, editing, and posting SCORM files (Required 3 Years)
  • Experience in LMS administration (Required 3 Years)
  • Experience with Adobe Captivate (Required Basic level of Proficiency)
  • Strong attention to detail and proofreading (Required 3 Years).
  • Experience in basic video editing software
  • Experience with Captivate, Camtasia, or other authoring tool (or similar experience)
  • Knowledge of instructional design concepts and principles
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Track record of producing self-guided modules which are highly engaging for the target audience

  • Can travel domestically 2-3 times per year
